Jersey quick work

On the way to New Jersey for a wedding, borrowed a laptop and took my tablet and sculpted on the way.

Alley Update

Learning a lot about textures, how much work they require...I could keep working on this but it's not my design so...almost at the end.

5.01.2009

Dogs

Got a detail brush...never used one of those before...$13 probably why.

another one

knife

Some more 3d tutorials...

Superfuzz update

Been a while...update...

3.11.2009

Pym

update...blah...moving...blah...

2.20.2009

Superfuzz Car

Here's the car so far, it's made up of multiple objects so the only part using the original cube is the main body...I could take or leave it, their design; but the reward is learning alot about the software.

2.19.2009

New piece

My brother & his girlfriend's dogs...Bernese Mountain dogs...

Pym update

Small update...moving the dog...

2.14.2009

Car start

Just showing the basic shape of the car from lesson 1...I won't post alot of progress on this one but you'll be able to see the start and end next to each other.

Finished modeling/texturing

Here's the end result for the character...

2.09.2009

Hair

I like the idea...don't know if I have the patience to make "hair" work...this was playing around with the "squirrel" shader.

2.08.2009

SSS

Sub Surface scattering was first...UV layout...then export to Photoshop and paint the UV's. However, I can now go into Bodypaint and paint on my 3d mesh, instead of a flat set of uvs...so I may want to consider redoing this step just to have gone through the motions. Also being able to paint your bump maps in there would be cool. We'll see.

2.07.2009

Finished with modeling

That's it for modeling...UV layout/texturing is next.

2.02.2009

Self portrait update

Learning more about brush technique, dry brushing , glazing, etc.

1.31.2009

Nearing the end

Okay, coming close to the end...mostly detail work...could spend more time "perfecting" things, but in my experience it leads to too much attention to detail and never being happy...anyway, texturing is next.

1.27.2009

character update

Moving along nicely on this one...could have been a bit faster, but I've spent some time customizing Maya's interface a little with mel scripting, (actually writing code and using it to make me more productive, sweet.), I'm starting to get the hang of it.

1.23.2009

New 3d project

A bit of a stylistic jump from what I was working on, but I figure all the stretchy/cartoony animation is the main game right now so might as well learn what the pros are doing. This guy is going from scratch to a fully animatable character...this is a first for me so this will be a good place to see if I get discouraged easily. I think I've prepared enough...I know what I'm getting into.

1.22.2009

Pym update

Slowly taking my time on this one...I wish real paint was so forgiving...getting better and not accepting something I'm not happy with, just paint over it...dummy! Patience, grasshopper.

Old man after rigging

So this guy is rigged with a lattice deformer, eyes have a target and I've done a quick animation on him...this render is the last frame, 300...will post when all the frames are rendered. Might be a while.

1.19.2009

Another old man update...think I'm done

I might play around more with lighting...and maybe textures, but I'm basically done with the project. I'll continue with rigging, maybe AE, still not sure if it's worth the time.

1.13.2009

Slight update

some work done to the "shooter" piece as well as "sketching in" mexico.

1.12.2009

Old man update

Was having trouble with Mental Ray in Maya...seems to be working now.

1.02.2009

Portrait update

Just one picture for now...the other two photos looked like really bad. Hey Dave can I use your camera...maybe a tripod too?
